December 9, 2008
Dear BMHS Band and
Guard Families,
With the marching
season now over, the students, staff, and I are
preparing for an exciting winter season.
One of the programs
that will be coming up in the very near future is our
Poinsettia Concert. This will take place on Tuesday,
December 16 in the Dr. James J. Forcellina Auditorium.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and you are all
welcomed. What always amazes me about this concert is
our transformation from a marching band to a concert
band. I hope that you will all come and listen to what
I believe will be a great program.
Last month, our Jazz
Ensemble started to practice on a more weekly basis.
Just like two years ago, our Jazz Band (and jazz combo)
will be competing at the Berklee College of Music High
School Jazz Festival, which will take place on Saturday,
January 31 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.
The Winter Guard
program is now up and running. Our first performance is
scheduled for January 10 at Cheshire High School and our
annual competition at BMHS is schedule for January 31.
Yes, I’m well aware that this is the same date as the
Jazz Band’s trip to Boston. I bring this up now because
we are going to need everyone’s help on that Saturday to
pull everything off. If you can help out at our Winter
Guard show that would be wonderful. Parental volunteers
will be looking for you very soon so please keep the
date open.
Though we may no
longer see each other on a weekly basis please feel free
to contact me, not only about your child’s progress but
anything that may come up related to the program. I
will be sending out another letter shortly talking about
exciting things to come in late winter and early
spring.
I hope that you and
your family have a wonderful holiday season.
Sincerely,
Ron Secchi
